Kelly Slater Surf Ranch

A hundred miles from the nearest coastline, I was born at the Lemoore Naval Air Base where my dad was stationed.

And as bizarre as it is for a navy base to be miles from water, it was as unlikely a location for Kelly Slater to choose as a testing ground for his wave pool.

I was invited by the WSL to spend a day at the surf ranch, with Will Dove and his friends.

The stoke was high, and despite the 45 degree water temperature, you couldn’t spot even one face without a smile.

There’s nothing like the magic and the power of the ocean, but the surf ranch comes pretty close.
